APP 1800: Take Back the Night with The Red Flag Campaign, OASIS, and the ASU Women’s Shelter

 

Join 90.5 WASU’s News Director, Maggie Harper, and Braxton Thompson, of The Red Flag Campaign to talk about the upcoming Take Back the Night event.

Take Back the Night will be held on Appalachian State’s Sanford Mall on April 26th, 2018.

The event will begin at 6PM and end at 9:30PM. The event page can be found here. 

Take Back the Night is just one event of many by The Red Flag Campaign during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Appalachian State “Hosts Semicolon Week”

“Semicolon Week focuses on continuing stories and providing the resources that we can capitalize on to push forward. The premise is that this simple and commonly used symbol shows support and promotes awareness of mental health and suicide. “Full Metal Jacket” Actor R. Lee Ermey Dies at 74

Actor R. Lee Ermey has died at the age of 74. Ermey was a Golden-Globe nominated actor and is most famous for his role as a tough drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket. According to Ermey’s manager, the actor died of pneumonia complications.

The Appalachian Nerd Network Presents “Nerdcon”

Plunkett & Fiddlestone will host an event called “Nerdcon 2018″on Appalachian State University’s campus. Nerdcon 2018 will be on April 28, 2018 and is an all-day event that begins at 10am and ends at 9pm. Nerdcon 2018 will take place inside the Plemmons Student Union on the ASU campus.

Rick and Morty Trivia Night in Boone

Local bar Galileo’s will host a Rick and Morty themed trivia game night this Thursday, April 12 at 7:30pm. There will be multiple rounds of Rick and Morty trivia and a special prize for the winner. Galileo’s is located at 1087 W King St in Boone.

Four Toledo Teens Plead Guilty to Murder

Four teens in Toledo, Ohio have plead guilty to killing a man by dropping a sandbag from a highway overpass. These teens will face four year suspended sentences, thirty hours of community service, and have all been placed on probation.

Suspect Taken into Custody After Stabbing in Deep Gap

A stabbing took place in the Deep Gap area on Saturday night and a suspect has since been taken into custody. According to the Wautaga County Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing victim escaped and received medical care as well as sought law assistance.

Appalachian State Hosts Celebration of Student Research and Creative Endeavors

The 21st Annual Celebration of Student Research and Creative Endeavors will be held on Thursday, April 19th, 2018  on the 4th floor of the Plemmons Student Union.

The Celebration showcases meaningful research in all disciplines by undergraduates and graduate students at Appalachian. Last year, 172 students representing over 20 departments presented their results in either a performance, platform talk, or poster.
