From around campus, a plant-based cafe finds new roots on King Street. According to The Appalachian, Rooted on King is a plant-based cafe that focuses on healthy foods, gives a touch of international taste, and keeps close community ties. Located on King Street, the cafe opened its doors on Feb 3, 2023. You can check it out Wednesdays-Saturdays at 11 am-2:30 pm.


From around North Carolina, NC lawmakers may require students to take computer science and get rid of earth science. According to The News & Observer, NC lawmakers could replace earth science with computer science. Some claim kids need computer science, pointing out a skills gap in the state’s workforce. However, some state lawmakers and teachers don’t think computer science should be treated as a requirement.


From national news, US and Canada are investigating three unidentified objects shot down over North America in the past three days. According to the New York Times, the Pentagon and intelligence officials are trying to uncover and make sense of the three unidentified objects that flew over Alaska, Canada, and Michigan that US fighter jets shot down with missiles on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Saturday, officials detected a radar blimp that disappeared over Montana. The blip then appeared Sunday over Montana and then into Wisconsin and Michigan. Military officials obtained the visual and had it shot down. This leaves us with one question, “what is up there”?


Now time for sports.


Womens golf continues today at Oyster Shuck in Charleston after beginning their season yesterday.


On Thursday men's indoor track and field is in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the USATF indoor championships. Also on Thursday men’s basketball will take on Texas State here in Boone. The Mountaineers are trying to rally after a tough loss to South Alabama.


Finally on Thursday the 9-16 women’s basketball team will take on old dominion in Norfolk. Finally rounding out the week Friday and Saturday men’s track and field will continue the USATF indoor championship and baseball season will start against Queens college in Hickory NC.


For some national news we had some major upsets in the college basketball world. #1 Purdue fell to Northwestern university on Sunday which brings them down to #3 and Previously #6 Tennessee fell to Missouri. That puts Alabama now at #1 after beating Auburn also on Sunday. Today 18 Creighton takes on #24 providence, #23 Nc state takes on Syracuse, #12 Kansas State takes on Oklahoma and #5 Kansas takes on Oklahoma state.
