In local news, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman in Burke County Thursday. According to WBTV, Dylan Rogers and Tammy Duckworth Boone were both charged with murder in the death of 41-year old Brandi Deal. Neighbors say Deal was due to give birth hours before her death.
In state news, police in Durham are investigating a fatal shooting on Thursday morning. According to WRAL, Police arrived at the 800 block of Park Avenue just after 8 a.m. to find a man dead. They did not release the man’s name. A neighbor described the event as “Very traumatizing.” Park Avenue was closed between Lathrop and Halloway streets while investigators looked for clues. Through noon, they had not released any information about who might have done the shooting.
In national news, President Biden gave a speech Thursday afternoon addressing the aerial objects shot down in the last month. According to NPR, Biden said the three aerial objects shot down by the U.S. military were most likely tied to private companies. Specifically, he mentioned recreation or research institutions studying or conducting scientific research. Biden said there is “no evidence” of a sudden increase of objects in the sky. Moving forward, Biden says the administration will establish an inventory of unmanned aerial objects above the U.S. airspace and implement measures to improve the capacity to detect these objects. The speech came after pressures from lawmakers to assure the American public about the four objects shot down in the last month.

In App state sports news, the mountaineer women’s basketball team heads to Alabama to take on the Troy Trojans Saturday night. The Trojans come in with a winning record while the lady Mountaineers come in below .500.
NBA All star weekend is this weekend with many fans excited for the contests on Saturday. Headlining those events is the 3 point contest featuring big names like Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum and Julius Randle participating. The Dunk Contest on the other hand has some lesser known participants featuring Sixers guard Mac McClung, Rockets forward Kenyon Martin Jr, pelicans forward Trey Murphy and Knicks forward Jericho Sims.
The NASCAR cup series returns this Sunday with the biggest race of the year, the Daytona 500. Starting on poll will be the driver of the #48 Alex Bowman.
Finally, with former Raiders QB Derek Carr forcing his release from the team, organizations said to be vying for the player are the New York Jets, the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers.
