In local news, the Watauga County Public Library announces their holiday book sale from November 4th through 6th. Childrens paperbacks will be priced as low as 25 cents. However the sale includes books for all ages as well as audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, and holiday gift wrapped baskets of books for those looking for affordable holiday shopping and to support the local library. In state news, as of October 18th the NCDPS is implementing a new policy that restricts incarcerated people from receiving handwritten letters, postcards, and children’s art. Instead, they will be sent to Maryland to be approved, scanned and then sent digital photocopies. The NCDPS claims it is an effort to stop drugs from entering facilities, but there has been an outcry from inmates that the new policy is cruel and dehumanizing. Many argue it takes away from the treasured personal belongings that connect them to their loved ones in the outside world.


In national news, NPR reports that the FDA approves Moderna and Johnson and Johnson booster shots for the covid 19 vaccine. The FDA approved the Pfizer booster shot in September. Now the Food and Drug Administration has approved booster shots from Moderna or Pfizer for those who have received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, and vice versa.
