San Diego’s star shortstop sticking around for the next decade
Fernando Tatis Jr. signed a massive extension with the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. The deal is worth $340 million over 14 years, making it the third-largest contract that Major League Baseball has ever seen, only behind Mike Trout and Mookie Betts.
Tatis Jr. is only 22 years old and last year he earned his first Silver Slugger and first-team All-MLB honors. He finished top-5 in NL MVP voting in the COVID-shortened season a year ago. He’s one of the league’s most exciting players to watch and he should have a lot more to add onto his resume over the next 14 years playing in sunny San Diego.
